Abstract
The paper presents a one-stage procedure for neophallus construction using a lateral groin flap. In the years 1991-1997, 127 female-to-male transsexuals underwent surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery of the Medical University of Lodz using this method.
Good results were obtained in 96 patients (75.6%). Necrosis of the distal part of the flap or other complications that adversely affected the final results of the treatment occurred in 20 cases (20.5%). In 5 cases the flap was completely lost. Phalloplasty along with urethra was done in 5 female-to-male transsexuals.
In 47 patients the constructed penis was stiffened with the use of three types of prostheses.
